How To Sell A Car Privately

If you are looking at trying to get rid of a car that you no longer use, there is the route of selling your car privately. By doing this instead of using it as a trade in it ensures that you are able to get the most money for the car. The trade in value of a car that is older with high miles may be nothing more then a couple hundred dollars. You could very well get a few hundred more if you decide to sell your car privately which means more money for a down payment or anything else that you may need or want.
The first thing you want to do when you are looking to sell your car privately is to look up the blue book value of the car. By taking a close look at what the condition of your car is, both the interior and the exterior, you will be able to determine exactly how much your car is worth. If you are not pushed for time then you will want to make your start price right at the blue book value or a little bit above. There is nothing out there that says you are not allowed to sale a car for more then it is worth. The idea behind this is that people like to make deals so there will be room for them to talk you down if you start the asking price a little on the high side.
Once you have your asking price all figured out you will want to make sure that you get the word out there that you are selling your car. Home made flyers and bulletin board advertisements are a great way to attract attention. There are a lot of free print publications for small towns and these are generally worth looking into. If you have some money to spare and the cause is worth it, place an ad in the newspaper to bring in more people. You will also want to make sure that you have a sign in the window of the car.
Make sure that you are including all of the essential information such as the year, make, and model of the car. The mileage plus the mechanical condition is helpful as well. If your car has any nice features such as air conditioning, a compact disc player, or electric windows make sure that you are listing those as well. You never want to lie about the condition of the car but rather enhance its appeal by focusing on all of the good things about it.

I drove down to get a quote. Waste of time. Took me 2 hours to get there only to get a low quote.
Save yourself the trip.
